The F-1-D digital-nomad visa as it stands since June 2026, a handful of coworking spaces, and the long-stay logistics — bank, internet, transit, insurance — that catch people on month three.

Workation (F-1-D) — Korean digital-nomad visa

Allows you to live in Korea while working remotely for a non-Korean employer / clients.

Validity

Up to 3 years — granted for 1 year, then extended 1 year at a time (rules in force since 30 Jun 2026).

Who qualifies

Foreign nationals working remotely for an overseas employer, with at least 1 year in the same field. The income bar is a multiple of Korea's previous-year per-capita GNI (₩52.41M for 2025): age 35+ — 2× (₩104.83M) in the Seoul capital area, 1.5× (₩78.62M) elsewhere; age 18–34 — 1.5× in the capital area, 1× (₩52.41M) elsewhere or in population-decline areas; with accompanying family — 2× / 1.5×. Confirm the current figure.

Can’t do
  • • Work for a Korean employer.
  • • Run a Korean-based business.
Documents
  • • Passport.
  • • Employment certificate + proof of at least 1 year in the same field.
  • • Pay slips / bank records showing income at the bar above.
  • • Private health insurance of ₩100 million+ covering treatment and repatriation.
  • • Criminal record certificate (apostilled).
  • • Application form + 35×45 mm photo.

At a Korean embassy / consulate abroad — or, if you meet the requirements, change status inside Korea from B-1, B-2 or C-3 at an immigration office.

Fee

Set by nationality — e.g. USD 45 for US citizens at the New York consulate. Ask your consulate.

Month-three logistics

Bank account: Toss Bank for foreigners

With an ARC and a Korean phone number, foreigners can open a Toss Bank account in the app, which runs in English (one of 10 languages).

Internet at home: KT, SK Broadband, LG U+

All three sell home fiber on contract — see the utilities guide (/utilities-setup). LG U+ runs a free foreigner line: 080-851-1004 (weekdays 09:00–18:00).

Monthly transit pass: T-money flat-rate

Seoul Climate Card: ₩62,000/month for unlimited Seoul subway + bus, or ₩65,000 with Ttareungyi bike share.

Furnished stays: Mr.Mention

Mr.Mention (mrmention.co.kr) lists furnished month-long stays; prices and terms are set per listing.

Health insurance

F-1-D is not on the NHIS list of visas auto-enrolled after 6 months — the ₩100M+ private insurance required for the visa is your cover. Other long-stay visas (D, E, F-2 to F-6, G-1, H) are enrolled after 6 months.
