Korea charges 10% VAT and refunds it to most short-term visitors. Two paths: immediate at the till, or stamped receipts redeemed at the airport.

Immediate refund — at the store
At affiliated stores (Global Tax Free, KT-Pass, etc.), VAT is deducted at checkout when you show your passport. Capped per receipt and per stay.
- • Show your passport at checkout.
- • Caps: ₩500,000/receipt · ₩5,000,000/stay.
- • You see the VAT removed from the total — no follow-up.
Post refund — at the airport
Keep stamped receipts. At Incheon T1/T2, head to the Customs desk before check-in to inspect goods >₩600,000, then claim cash or card refund at the kiosk in the departure area.
- • Receipts over ₩600,000 need a Customs stamp before check-in.
- • Then drop receipts at the airport refund kiosk for cash, card credit, or Alipay/WeChat.
- • Allow 30 extra minutes at the airport.
Eligibility & airport desks
- • Visitor on a short-term visa (B-1, B-2, C-3) — stay under 6 months.
- • Items must leave Korea unused, within 3 months of purchase.
- • Show passport at purchase OR at the refund counter.
- • Some categories excluded: services, food/drink consumed, used cosmetics.
- Incheon T1 — East Customs counter D · West Customs counter J. Kiosks: After security, near gates 14, 27, 122.
- Incheon T2 — Customs counter near gate 250. Kiosks: Multiple in departure area.
- Gimpo — Departure level customs. Kiosks: International departures hall.
- Jeju — International departures. Kiosks: Departure hall.
- Gimhae (Busan) — International terminal. Kiosks: Departure hall.
