At a Korean restaurant without a halal label

  • •Pork (돼지고기) is common, and soups may use pork or beef bone broth — ask before ordering stews.
  • •Marinades often use cooking wine (맛술) or soju — ask "술 들어가요?" (sul deureogayo? — is there alcohol in it?).
  • •Seafood and vegetable dishes are easier, but any meat in them is not halal-slaughtered.
  • •Convenience-store food: read the ingredients for 돼지고기 (pork), 젤라틴 (gelatin) and 주정 (alcohol).
