Specialty coffee tour
Eat & drink

Seoul’s specialty-coffee scene goes well beyond the handful of cafés every visitor queues for. Below: 12 roaster cafés with addresses (and hours where the roaster publishes them), plus 3 day routes built from them.

Korean cafe etiquette + drink terminology

  • Americano = defaultThe Americano (espresso + water) is the everyday order almost everywhere. "Latte" 라떼 = espresso + milk.
  • 얼음 = ice"아아 / 아이스 아메리카노" = iced Americano (a year-round favourite in Korea). "뜨아 / 따뜻한 아메리카노" = hot Americano.
  • Laptops: read the roomSome cafés post "노트북 사용 자제" / "노트북 사절" (please no laptops) signs, especially at busy times. If you see one, keep it short.
  • Buying beansMost roasters sell beans in store and online. Say "원두 사고 싶어요" (won-du sa-go sip-eo-yo — I’d like to buy beans) and ask for 홀빈 (whole bean) or 분쇄 (ground).
  • Hand drip = 핸드드립Filter coffee is usually listed as 핸드드립 (hand drip) or 필터. It is the best way to taste a single origin; prices vary by bean.
  • Drip bags travel wellMany roasters sell 드립백 (single-serve drip bags) — light, cheap to carry home, and easy to brew in a hotel room.
  • Go early for famous spotsWell-known cafés like Onion Anguk get crowded at peak times. Opening time or a weekday is the easy window.
  • Check hours on Naver MapCafé hours change often. Where a roaster does not publish hours, check Naver Map (or the roaster’s site) the day you go.
